He was attractive. His eyes were so expressive. And he was so well-mannered. He had that European politeness, in which he greeted you with a little bit of a bow and looked you right in the eye. It was not just a casual, “Oh, hello, glad to meet you” sort of thing. It was a little ceremony… And he turned to von Sternberg and said, “I really have told you before I don’t think I’m handsome enough for the part.
